Fishing rules

Here are the fishing rules for the Hola-Langsjøen waterway, managed by the Hola fishing association.

Purpose of the fishing rules:

Fishing regulations are provisions that ensure sustainable fish stocks, safeguard animal welfare, regulate who has the right to fish and ensure that fish resources are managed fairly. Fishing regulations are intended to prevent overfishing, protect vulnerable species during spawning periods, with the main objective of sustainable fishing on a naturally managed stock.

Paragraph 1.

Fishing area.

  • Following rules an regulations concerns the territory from an between: Trangdalen bridge, Lettingshøgda, Elgpiggen, Gloføken, the border against Rendalen, follows the municipal border to Kvennvikhøgda. The municipal border follows Tolga-Os to Kula, Vola back to Trangdalen bridge.

  • The rules apply to the entire Langsjøen in Tolga municipality.

  • Exceptions from these territoriesare: Øversjøen including outlet, Håkåtjern, Stortjern, Orvtjern in Orvdalen, Loken in Svartdalen and Langtjern at Brattegga.

  • Fishing zone 1. Hola river from Trangdalen bridge to the bridge at Nesset, and Hola river from the bridge at Søndmør to Langsjøen. All tributaries, small rivers and waters within the management area of ​​Hola fishing area, with the exception of private waters, cf. point 1.

  • Fishing zone 2, the fly fishing zone runs from the bridge at Nesset to the bridge at Søndmør.

  • Fishing zone 3, Langsjøen in Tolga municipality.

Paragraph 2.

Conservation periods and fishing times.

 

  • Trout is protected throughout the entire watercourse during the spawning season from 1th of September to  15th of November.

  • ​Grayling is protected throughout the entire watercourse during the spawning season from 1th of May to 15th of June.

  • The conservation rules apply to everyone, including children under 16 years of age.

  • Summer fishing season, trout from 1th of May to 31 th of August.

  • Summer fishing season, grayling from 15th of June to 30th of November.

  • Summer fishing season, pike, perch, whitefish and lake trout from May 1 to November 30.

Fishing times for the various fishing zones.

  • Summer fishing season for fishing zone 1 is from 1th of May to 30th of November.

  • Summer fishing season for fishing zone 2 is from 15th June to 15th of October.

  • Summer fishing season for fishing zone 3 is from 1th of May to 30th of November.

Seasons:

  • Summer season: 1th of May to 30th of November 30.

  • Ice fishing season: 1th of December to 30th of April. Applies to all fish species. Ice fishing has its own fishing rules.​​

Paragraph 3.

Fishing gear that is not permitted to be used in rivers, creeks and water.

  • A general ban has been introduced (all year round) against the use of tied fishing gear (fishing net, seining, fyke net, or simlar) for all fishing in rivers, creeks and water.​​

  • A general ban has been introduced against catching and storing live fish.

  • A general ban has been introduced against the use of otters for all fishing in rivers, creeks and water.​​ The otter is a fishing device constructed with two parts, an otter board and a fishing line, or similar.

  • It is not permitted to use flies with barbs.​​

  • It is not permitted to use hooks other than circle hooks for worm fishing bait.

  • It is not permitted to use landing net with knots.

  • It is not permitted to use added artificial or natural odorants and flavors on fishing flies, or similar fishing gear.

  • It is not permitted to use impregnation on fishing flies.

  • It is not permitted to fish with fish as bait.

  • It is not permitted to use leister, fishing spear, gig or similar equipment. Exception as a tool for pike fishing.

Paragraph 4.

Fishing in creeks and small rivers connected to Hola river and lake Langsjøen.
 

  • Permitted fishing time in creeks and small rivers is from 15th of June to 1th of September.​​

  • In the creeks and tributaries of Hola and Langsjøen, the minimum size for trout is 18 cm.

Paragraph 5.

Fly fishing zone.

  • Permitted fishing time is from 15th of June to 15th of October.

  • Closed season for trout is 1th of September to 15th of November.

  • Fishing gear that is permitted is only fly fishing where the line constitutes the casting weight.

  • Flies must not have barbs.

  • It is not permitted to use artificial or natural odorants and flavors on the fly.

  • It is not permitted to use impregnation on fishing flies.

  • Only knotless hoofs are permitted.

  • Maximum size/length for grayling is 35 cm.

  • Maximum size/length for trout is 30 cm.​

  • "Bag limit", each fisherman can kill a maximum of 1 fish per day.

  • Fishermen are required to bring a measuring tape or similar, if in doubt about the length, the fish must be released.

  • Children under 16 years of age can fish using a rod/hand line.

Paragraph 6.

Pike fishing.

  • Fishing gear that is allowed is sport fishing gear such as flies, lures, spinners and wormbait. Bait fishing is prohibited.

  • Not allowed with tied fishing gear (fishing net, seining, fyke net, or simlar).

  • Not allowed with otters. The otter is a fishing device constructed with two parts, an otter board and a fishing line, or similar.

  • Only allowed with knotless hoofs.

  • Maximum size for pike: All pike over 65 cm must be released.

  • Anglers are obliged to have a size, if in doubt about length, the fish must be released.

  • For license holders, pike fishing with firearms is allowed, cf. §37 Act 1992-05-15 no. 47. Written permission for the relevant hunting days is granted upon application to Hola Fishing Association.

Paragraph 7.

Fishing gear, lake Langsjøen.

  • When trolling, including trolling gear such as deep rigs. 2 fishing rods/fishing lures are allowed per fisherman. Maximum 4 fishing rods/fishing lures per boat.

  • Only knotless hooves are allowed.

  • Fishing rod/hand line is allowed, except for flies with barbs.

  • Not allowed with fishing net, seining,fyke net, or simlar.

  • Not allowed with otters. The otter is a fishing device constructed with two parts, an otter board and a fishing line, or similar.

Paragraph 8.

Net and other fixed fishing gear in lake Langsjøen, only landowners and others with legitimacy.

Exceptions to § 3, first and second paragraphs.

  • Licensees are allowed to use gillnets, float nets and seines throughout Langsjøen.

  • All tied fishing gear must be marked with the owner's name and address. On nets, it must be marked on the float at both ends.

  • Licensees are allowed to use fish caught in the Hola-Langsjøen waterway as bait.

  • Licensees are allowed to use otters.

  • It is not allowed to use tied fishing gear in Langsjøen within a radius of 200 meters from the Hola outlet.

  • It is not allowed to use tied fishing gear in Smørbekkhåen and Stræthåen in Langsjøen, this is to protect the large pike that feed on whitefish and small pike.

Guidelines for mesh size:

  • In Langsjøen, nets with a mesh size of 26 mm to 31 mm are recommended.

  • Mesh sizes of 35 mm and larger increase the mortality of trout larger than 30 cm.

  • The recommended mesh size for large trout is 26 mm, slightly larger for guide nets.

Paragraph 9.

Fishing net in Langsjøen for the public.

Exception from § 3, first paragraph.

  • Holders of a net card are allowed to use floating nets throughout Langsjøen in Tolga municipality.

  • All fishing nets must be marked with the owner's name and address. On nets, it must be marked on the float at both ends.

  • Mesh sizes on nets larger than 31 mm are not permitted.

  • It is not permitted to fishing net in Langsjøen within a radius of 200 meters from the Hola outlet.

  • It is not permitted to use fishing net in Smørbekkhåen and Stræthåen in Langsjøen, this is to protect the large pike that feed on whitefish and small pike.

Paragraph 10.

Minimum-limit fish size.

  • In creeks and small tributaries, cf. § 4 of the fishing rules, the minimum size for trout is 18 cm.

Paragraph 11.

Maximum-limit fish size.

Applies to the entire Hola-Langsjøen watercourse.

  • Maximum size/length for trout is 30 cm.

  • Maximum size/length for grayling is 35 cm.

  • Maximum size/length for pike is 65 cm.

When using net or other tied fishing gear in Langsjøen, maximum sizes do not apply.

Paragraph 12.

Baglimit.

  • Fishing zone 1, daily quota for grayling is 2 fish per angler/fisherman per day.

  • Fishing zone 1, daily quota for trout is 2 fish per angler/fisherman per day.

  • Fishing zone 1, no daily quota for other species.

  • Fishing zone 2, fly fishing zone, daily quota for grayling is 1 fish per angler/fisherman per day.

  • Fishing zone 2, fly fishing zone, daily quota for trout is 1 fish per angler/fisherman per day.

  • Fishing zone 2, fly fishing zone, no daily quota for other species.

  • Fishing zone 3, Langsjøen, daily quota for grayling is 2 fish per angler/fisherman per day.

  • Fishing zone 3, Langsjøen, daily quota for trout is 2 fish per angler/fisherman per day, of which 1 fish may be over the maximum target.

  • Fishing zone 3, Langsjøen, no daily quota for other species.

  • Fishing zone 3, Langsjøen, when using nets or tied fishing gear, no daily quota applies.

Paragraph 13.

Releasing fish.

In order for the fish to survive release, the following is very important:

  • Land the fish as quickly as possible, do not handle the fish with dry hands, do not lift the fish out of the water unnecessarily, be quick and efficient, use hook-release pliers.

  • Use a fly without a barb. If you only have flies with barbs, do not squeeze the barb with pliers as it will need to be filed down.

  • Use a solid lead that can withstand the fish being quickly brought towards land.

  • Use circle hooks when fishing with wormbait, as these normally hook in the corner of the mouth and not down into the throat.

  • Use knotless hooks with small meshes, and the hook must be large enough to accommodate the fish without damaging the fins, tail and mucous layer.

Paragraph 14.

Infection control.

  • Fishing gear used in a watercourse other than the main Femund/Trysil watercourse must be cleaned and dried, as must boots, waders, fishing kayaks and other floating equipment, clothing, and similar. Remember that Glomma belongs to another watercourse.

  • It is not permitted to gut fish in and around this watercourse, which is fished in a watercourse other than Hola-Langsjøen.

Paragraph 15.

Ice fishing.

  • Ice fishing season is from 1th of December to 30th of April.

  • Only regular jigging rods and knotless fish hoof are allowed.

  • No fishing net is allowed, applies to everyone, no exceptions.

  • The maximum size for trout is 30 cm (length) and for grayling it is 35 cm (length), with the following exception: Each fisherman can catch 1 fish over the maximum size per day. All pike over 65 cm (length) must be released.

Paragraph 16.

Fish management.

  • With fish management at Hola Fishing Association, the fishing rules are exempted.

Paragraph 17.

Fishing License must be purchased by every participant in fishing activities in Hola-Langsjøen watercourse and its tributaries, except persons of 16 years of age and younger. The Fishing License is personal, and cannot be transferred or used by others, and is considered illegal without legitimate ID.

Paragraph 18.

Do not accept illegal caught fish handed to you, nor dispose, sell or realize such fish.

Paragraph 19.

Any violation, offence or breach against these rules will be reported to State and/or County authorities, and violator will be notified regarding indictment shortly.

Paragraph 20.

All rules and regulations for the watercourse Hola-Langsjøen and its tributaries, are in force for the year 2026 and onward until further notice.
